What happened?

I've not really explained what happened at all.

Friday night, I was mugged, 30 yards from my house in Middlesbrough. I was stabbed three times, two abdominal wounds, one in my butt. I also have a defence wound on my hand.

CAT scans were done to check if anything internally was damaged. It wasn't. There is a small amount of blood in my left lung which will disperse naturally with time.

If either of the abdominal wounds were even a centimetre away from where they are, I'd be dead right now. That's incomprehensible to me right now.

I had a fast resting pulse of around 105bpm while I was kept in. I was discharged Monday with a whole cocktail of painkillers.

Tuesday, I nearly passed out at one point. I also noticed my stools were completely black (signalling blood loss, early in the digestive system). This continued on Wednesday. Wednesday evening, I returned to A&E and was readmitted. This morning, I had a chest x-ray and endoscopy, which revealed a stomach ulcer.

It was decided that the ulcer came from the stress of the incident, and one of the painkillers made it bleed. Stomach acid was preventing it from clotting, however, causing more blood loss. This blood loss is assumed to have been causing my feintness. I should have been discharged today, however my heart was racing at nearly 120bpm (resting). Hopefully I can go home and be done with all of this tomorrow.

See, when this sort of thing happens it makes me realise that the world is much smaller than we think, and this sort of thing is always lurking round the corner. I'm deeply sorry to hear this has happenned to you, but I'm thankful that you made it out of that and are still alive (albeit not quite kicking yet). Hope you condition improves shortly and you're back on your feet, mate. Prayers in your direction.

I'm glad you're still with us.

I've never been stabbed, but, I know how unpleasant ulcereal type pain is, with the associated being faint, etc. Are you on something like Omeprazole until it clears up?

Wishing you a speedy recovery mate.

Sorry to hear about that Aaron. I hope you make a speedy recovery.

I'm so sorry Aaron. Being so close that it could have killed you, that would freak anyone out :( Take care of yourself and while this seems like such an American answer I'm sure... if it is too much for you to deal with alone or with friends, make sure you talk to someone who can help you.

It's bad enough some people think mugging you is ok for them to do, but to put your life in danger when, let's face it most people don't carry that much cash on them anymore... just ugh. Makes me sick. Your life is worth far more than anything you could have had on you for him to steal.

*gentle hugs*
