TV Licensing

Fucking TV Licensing people won't leave me alone, despite the fact that I. DO. NOT. HAVE. A. TV.

Yes, I know I don't have a license. Why? I DON'T HAVE A FUCKING TV, MORONS.

Yes, I know that if you caught me with TV reception equipment I'd face prosecution. Want to know why that doesn't bother me? I DON'T FUCKING HAVE A TV!

You "unfortunately missed [me] today, but will call again in a few days", so that you can catch me using a TV that I DON'T HAVE?

TV Licensing wastes so much taxpayers' money it's not true.

Assholes.

BBC doesn't have adverts, so all tv is effectively by subscription... except you don't get a choice.
TV licence pays for the BBC. The Tv licencing authority is an organisation that collects this fee currently £126 /year

Re: Well I never!
well that's ok if you didn't vote for him
just remember that the world watches the us elections intensely, when you see America proclaim itself to be the greatest and freest democracy, and then see it can't even hold a fair election, then you worry.

Back to tv licensing
having a tax levied on owning a TV set is not uncommon in europe. This ensures that public service broadcasting is well paid for, rather than putting the onus on the broadcasters, taxing tv set owners means that there is a broadcaster that can make programs independant from the state but without the need for advertising.
Because it has to be seen to give peopl value for money, it must make content that is popular, at the same time, it has a charter that says it has to make highrow informative stuff, rather than just populist crap.
Thus is the paradox of the bbc.

The TV licensing agency is the part of the bbc that collects this fee. It has been made a criminal offense to watch any tv without a license (even if you never watch bbc) and people do go to jail because of it.
They seem to think of anyone who doesn't own a television to be an abnormal freak, surely they must secretly have a tv and just be trying to get away without it, even though this is only the case in about 20% of the time thus they think you guilty until proven innocent.

If I chose not to watch any of these BBC programme, just ITV1, Ch4, etc etc, they will force us to buy one anyway.

I don't see the point of this. Another greedy money making scheme by the Gov & BBC!

actually it wastes BBC money; tv licence funds bbc. Only par the government gets is VAT.

ps
BBC employees found watching tv without a licence will be fired immediately.

Whilst the TVLA like to wax lyrical about their almost "magical" detector vans, actually this mostly involves picking up the electromagnetic radiation given off as a byproduct of a cathode ray tube functioning. For that they can't be far away.
This is obtained by the way the tv works, it leaks a signal back up the aerial at 39.5 mhz higher than the frequency viewed This works for terrestrial signals. It is also possible to detect radiation given off by the electromagnetic fielf from a CRT scteen, far more likely, however, they will look at your postcode and if you are in a certain demographic: ie poor or a student, they can obtain a warrant and search your house for this tv you don't have.

more info on http://www.tvlicensing.biz/detection/index.htm

Should you get a warrant from one of the bbc's cronies. He cannot enter your house without a warrant, so make sure he shows you one - he has inconvenienced you, you should oblige him the same curtosey and make him get a warrant before you demonstrate that you don't watch tv.
http://www.tvlicensing.biz/students/students_faq.htm is more information
sorry for posting the same thing twice but this is a particular interest
